4.1 A great looking place and the service was stellar. The food was a bit hit and miss, good but not quite great. Over seasoned with salt (a real no-no with scallops) and the dishes were fresh well made otherwise. Great cocktails for sure and we look forward to a return.
The food was pretty cool. They had a few twist on things. The device was great Jordyn was so sweet and welcoming. She made me feel comfortable. I do wish they had stone crab claws. The vibe was relax and you they have happy hours. It's cute and clean.
We had a great time at Jax! Came on a Saturday and did not make a reservation but we were able to sit at the bar instead. Ordered a variety of oysters and small plates rather than a full entree. Our favorite oyster was definitely the black magic and cowboy was also good. My friend got the blackened shrimp, it was really good and the salad complemented it well. The gumbo was to die for! So flavorful. Also loved the oil sauce they provided with the bread. Bartenders/servers were super attentive and the food came out so quick. They also make some fun craft cocktails here which were fun to try.
Our first time at Jax KC. They have several locations in Colorado as well. If you are familiar with the plaza, its on the far west end, pretty much outside of the plaza in my opinion. From the Aloft it was less than a 10 minute walk. We started with chilled peel and eat shrimp. It was solid. We got a 1/2lb of steamed also with the veggie risotto (gluten free), and we prefer them chilled. I requested the Sea Bass because it was GF, but I was informed they were out of it. I asked if the Halibut was GF because it wasnt listed as such on the menu, and was told it was. I'm not sure if they modified it for GF or what... but as I'm not Celiac I'm not worried. My wife however is, so I didnt share with her. Her vegetable risotta was GF. Wasnt much to rave about. The halibut was fine, but not so good I'd order it if I came again. There is a Salmon dish and Scallop dishes that are GF as well as most of the raw bar, so there are other options we would try if we return.
Everyone is very friendly it's a cool vibe and a lot of options to choose from. Sheila was our waiter and she was so sweet and honest when we were struggle in between choosing what to get. I love that most of their drinks on the labor special was rum based that's really hard to come by, they immediately already stole my heart. I got the painkiller and it was really good and my friend got the Bangkok fizz was good and it had a good spice/kick flavor but the fiber beer mellows out. Food: I really wanted the gumbo but they couldn't take the sausage out. My friend said it was good and the waiter said it takes 3 days to make. The oysters were so good the creole butter was to die for. There was a bed of salt under the oysters that i absolutely did not care for. So I would suggest asking for it to not be on there especially if you like to slurp and taste the flavor of the remaining ingredients, it was just all over my hand from picking up the oyster. The crab cake was perfect and the sauce was great. Vegetable risotto was really good it was creamy, but the shrimp taste burnt and I didn't care for the burnt flavor but the shrimp was good it was just bit too charred. You can add other protein if you don't like shrimp. Blackened yellowfin tuna was something new for me I got it med raw the texture was different. The flavor of the entire meal was flavorful but I don't think I'd get it again. I got the mustard aioli on the side and I'm glad I did because I wasn't a fan of the sauce. The overall meal was just different.
I love Jax's relaxing, oceanic atmosphere. The fish tank in the center of the restaurant is especially gorgeous. I've only been there for brunch so far, but their Crab Cake Benedict is sublime! It's hard to find good seafood in the Midwest, but somehow Jax manages to serve super fresh fish in KC. The service was great, too! It wasn't an especially busy time when we went, but our server was attentive and upbeat.
Finally got the chance to check out Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar this weekend. We tried oysters and several things from the menu. The best thing I got was the salmon. It was cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the lobster Mac and cheese. It had great flavor. The shrimp on the Shrimp and grits were a little dry. We made reservations, however it was not crazy busy. I service was good and efficient. They have a great selection of wine and drinks to choose from. Parking is easy and the atmosphere is great. Would reccomend checking out. Outdoor patio seating available!
Great dinner with friends an the food was delicious. We had the most attentive server! The noise level was perfect for laughing an talking an catching up with dear friends.
This place is efficient! We were in an out in under 40 min, which is nice because the parking garage charged by the hour. For starters, we both ordered the gumbo. It was great! I have always been nervous about eating crawfish, but it was a lot more appealing being in a soup. My tuna was amazing and just the right amount of food since I wasn't super hungry. My boyfriend ordered the lobster Mac and cheese which tasted very fancy. We will definitely be back and would like to try one of their events in the future.
